Here we go into week two of Fabulous Friday Fun. Today I'm going to show you how I make a shaped card using Spellbinders dies. You can use any type of die and die cutting machine. This just happens to be what I have.
For this project I used minimal supplies:
1.) Three shades of cardstock
2.) Tim Holtz stamps (from Birds and Baubles and Soulful Journey)
3.) Distressing ink (Frayed Burlap)
4.) Colorbox petal point pigment ink
5.) Stampendous clear embossing powder
Tools that I used: distressing tool by Ranger Industries, Spellbinder die (Beaded Square), Cuttlebug machine, Fiskars 12 inch paper trimmer, Marvy heat embossing gun and an old school embossing stylus.
The first thing I do is figure out where to score my cardstock. I don't have a fancy dancy scorer so I use what I have on hand, which is my 12 inch trimmer. Where the blade cuts a straight line is a groove that when you line up your paper and push down into that groove with a stylus you score your paper.

The first thing I do is figure out where to score my cardstock. I don't have a fancy dancy scorer so I use what I have on hand, which is my 12 inch trimmer. Where the blade cuts a straight line is a groove that when you line up your paper and push down into that groove with a stylus you score your paper.
With the piece of cream cardstock that I picked out of my stash, I lined it up on my trimmer and then placed the die on top of it. I know that I'll need a fold in the paper to make it a card and not just two die cuts. To make this fold I am going to score the paper to the right of the die. Therefore when my die is on my trimmer the score line is over the die. See picture below.
From here I take the die off of the trimmer, leaving the paper where it is, and score my line in the groove of the trimmer.
After it is scored I then take the paper out and fold it at the score line.
Once I have a well folded piece of cardstock I get the Cuttlebug out and place the die on top of the folded paper to cut my card. You have to let the die hang over the paper where it is folded like the picture below.
In order to get the die to cut through two pieces of cardstock I had to use a piece of chipboard and run it through twice. Since we are using the Cuttlebug to cut we use the "C" plate. ("C" is for cut)
Here is the die cut still inside the die. At first I was all mad because it didn't cut all the way through.
But then I took it out of the die and loved the results. On the inside of the card the pattern of the die was embossed onto it. I was pleasantly surprised.
This is the front of the card unfinished.
And here it is all pretty.
I added some stamps and heat embossing to the brown cardstock. I took a Colorbox petal and inked the edges so I could pour embossing powder over it and heat embossed the edges. Distressing ink was my friend on the edges of the card base along with some Perfect Pearls and water sprayed on it.
Thank you so much for stopping by today and checking out my tutorial.
