Partial dry embossing Thinking of You card

The Chalk a lot and Stamp N Plus are no longer in business but I kept the information here for my own personal timeline.
UPDATED PHOTO AND FONT SIZE, ADDED LABELS, REMOVED SOME LINKS, and CHANGED THE TITLE TO REFLECT WHAT THE POST IS AND NOT CAL CHALLENGE. ALL OF THIS WAS DONE ON
4-22-22
Join me over at
Chalk-Ah-Lot Cafe for
Challenge #19. The theme is Thinking of You and you must use chalk on your project. Check the sidebar for challenge details.  For my card, my stamps are by Stamp N Plus sentiment stamp flower stamp. I used my finger to spread Stardust chalk on the flower over the stamped flower. It gives it a great sparkle and shine.

Chalk tutorial

Welcome back to another powdered chalk tutorial. The Ginger chalk I use on my card is not on the Powder chalk website but you can order it by calling 715-271-1873. It's a fun red with a hint of yellow.

I'm creating a fun background using powdered chalk, a cotton ball and a plastic overlay. You could simply use another piece of paper instead of the overlay but it's nice to see through the overlay to know where your next line goes.

I started by lining up the overlay in the corner. On the cotton ball I rubbed chalk against the seam in circular motion.

Then I moved the overlay in a counter clockwise fashion creating more lines giving my paper a starburst look.

Here's what I ended up with. Definitely not perfect but creative placement in my card covers up the imperfections.

Here is my card using THIS flower stamp. I used the cotton ball around the edges of the image. The sentiment sticker is by Sticko/EK Success, cardstock by Provo Craft, patterned paper by Recollections and die cut by Spellbinders.

Calendar layout Sam and Paul color their Layout

I have a calendar that hangs at work. Every month I add a new layout to it. For September I used stamps by SNP. The cloud can be found HERE however if you would like to purchase the wheel stamp you will need to call to order it from Luann at 715-271-1873.

Fun thing about this layout is the fake tatoos my sister and husband are wearing. They wanted to add color to them and used my Copic markers to do so. They are so goofy sometimes.

The patterned paper is by The Paper Studio from Hobby Lobby, lace and thread are vintage, The die cuts are cut from the Cricut, cardstock is by Coredinations and Recollections and ink by Tsukineko and Stampin Up. Thank you.

Autumn Splendor card with Handmade background card

Blog Post UPDATED 10-18-21.
I made the background of this card using a scroll stamp and added a wheat stamp to a scalloped circle. The patterned paper is from a fall tablet by Recollection and the other patterned paper is by Scribble Scrabble (old from my stash). I used a Martha Stewart border punch, Cricut CTMH Art Philosophy cartridge for the die cuts.

This company (Stamp N Plus) is no longer around to credit for the supplies. But I'm keeping the challenge information just for my own memory.

Chalk-Ah-Lot Tutorial

Did you know that some of the powdered chalks available at Stamp N Plus have the ability to streak another color? Mystic Blue for example is a unique chalk that looks green in the container. However when you add this chalk to your project, the more you press the more blue pigment comes forward. You end up with a deep blue/green color.

For today's tutorial I'm going to use the color Crimson to show you a way to use the streaking property of Stamp N Plus's powdered chalks with some dry embossing.

Note: Not all the powdered chalks streak. As the weeks roll out with new tutorials, you will see which ones do.

Powdered chalk can be purchased HERE
FYI: Powdered chalk, Buzz Magic, Stamp Affair, Chalk-Ah-Lot and Stamp N Plus Scrap N, are all the same company. To save people from getting confused, I refer to all the above as Stamp N Plus.

Crimson chalk appears reddish in the container and streaks red too.
(If you are interested in purchasing Crimson powdered chalk please call Luann at 715-271-1873)

I combined the chalk with Stamp N Plus paint but any acrylic paint would do.

This is the amount of chalk I used, which ended up being way too much. As always when using powdered chalks, a little bit goes a long way.

The tool I use to mix the chalk and paint is by Creative Memories but you could use anything. I just like the flat surface to smooth out the bumps.

After combining the two the color looks more orange but don't worry that red will appear later.

I painted my embossing folder using a wide tip paint brush.

I was very generous with my chalk mixture. Tip: If you find it dries out before you emboss it, give it a spritz of water and it comes back to life. And if you use a lot of water you get a whole different look.

Going through the Cuttlebug. I made two passes with it. One going forward and then cranking it backwards.

Once it's been embossed there maybe spots that didn't get coverage. Lift the embossing folder up a little and squish it down again to move the mixture to different areas.

In this picture you can see the majority of the paper is the orange color. Only in spots with lots of mixture can you see the color red.

Here comes the streaking.
I wanted to use the streaking effect to make the bigger leaves of the embossed image stand out. While it was still wet I used the paint on the leaves and swirled it around with a paint brush. I didn't use any new paint when painting those leaves. The added pressure to my brush in those areas made the streaking property of the powdered chalk color the leaves red. (Basically swipe your brush over the areas you want to be the different color. I can't seem to word it well :)

Here is my final embossed area with the larger leaves exhibiting the streaked red color.

I made my card simple to show off the embossed area. I used the lace to cover up a little spot that didn't get chalked. Creative placement is what I like to call that :)

Here is a second card I made using the same chalk (As I said earlier, I made way too much of the mixture and didn't want it to go to waste).
I think the Crimson is perfect for fall cards but would also compliment summer themes as well.

The sentiment stamps are by Stamp N Plus. These stamps are not on the website but I took a picture of the set they come in and you can call Luann to order this versatile sentiment stamp set at 715-271-1873.

To My Teacher

Showing a little Red, White and Blue on this September 11th. Crazy to think it was 11 years ago today. It still makes me cringe.
Thank you to the men and women that fight for our freedom in the good old USA. I appreciate all you do.

Today's card is featuring some more sentiment stamps from Stamp N Plus. The sentiment sheet is not on the website, so I took a picture of the sentiments that are included. If you interested in this sheet of sentiments call Luann at 715-271-1873

My card has an upcylced item on it. The yellow frame is chipboard that a large square came out of. I painted it yellow (Pebbles) to match my back to school theme. The apple is a Cricut die cut and the blue and red are die cuts by Spellbinders. I used black Memento Ink for the sentiment and distressing ink for the edges. The lined paper is by Recollections.

Thanks for taking a look.
