The new fortnightly challenge at Chalk Ah Lot is
Stencil with chalk
and stencils are all the rage these days for very good reasons. You can use many different mediums on stencils and get a variety of looks from each.
For this challenge, I used my powdered chalk and paint from our sponsor Stamp N Plus. The owner, Luann, sells a fabulous line of
&
I used Dandy colored powdered chalk mixed with paint by Stamp N Plus to make my background. I really like the SNP paint because it is more fluid and it has a sparkly shimmer to it. The powdered chalk mixes smoothly with SNP paint which you have seen on my blog before, I love to paint in just about anything and everything with this mixture.
To create the background I used a Ronda Palazzari Designs stencil by the Crafter's Workshop. It is a 12x12 but I love that the design is small enough for a card. I determined which side was back and tapped my Versa Mark ink pad over it generously. Then I place the stencil over Strathmore watercolor paper and taped it down to the craft sheet. I placed my left hand on the stencil to allow the Versa Mark to stick to the paper and with my right hand I used a cosmetic wedge to apply the chalk mixture. The Versa Mark sticks the stencil to the paper so the mixture doesn't go underneath the stencil. Be sure to have a light hand when sweeping the cosmetic wedge over the stencil. You can see that with a heavy hand, the chalk did make it under the stencil (the bottom of the card front has less defined borders of the triangle shape.) I lightened up around the top of the card front. One thing to keep in mind is there is a longer drying time when you use the Versa Mark to hold down the stencil.
The rest of my card is made up of heart die cuts cut out using the Cricut in white cardstock. The yellow is a patterned paper by We R Memory Keepers and the red is by Daisy D's. The red cardstock is by Stampin Up and the white paper is by Recollections.

Like the painted stencil background. I have been using stencils alot lately as in Tim Holtz stencils and I even made my own St Patrick's Day stencil using a Shamrock from Cricut cartridge Designer's Calendar. Just finished my stencil card entry with a Western Oriental look using Tim Holtz Burlap layering stencil and Stamp N Plus chalk.
