There's a new challenge at Christmas Cards all Year Round with our new design team making their debut. Our challenge for the month of July is Non traditional Christmas colors. I have to say this is a challenge for me but I'm really proud of my penguin card. Why am I proud? Well I will tell you it has to do with having an idea and sort of staying with it throughout creating the card, using an old image stamp, which is kind of cutesy and not something I tend to do {but I like it}, using old colored pencils, using some new stuff instead of always hoarding it, cutting a piece of 12x12 patterned paper for a card, and using my label die cut in a new and creative way.
So here it goes-My idea for the challenge was how about black and white with one off color. I knew it would be either yellow or the teal/aqua color since those are my buzz colors these days.
I stamped the penguin stamp by Just Rite {Old cutesy image stamp}and his outer frame onto Ranger watercolor paper with Hero Arts black ink. I colored him in with {Old} Stampin Up colored pencils and used a Ranger water pen to blend the color. I love the white on his tummy, which is hard to see in the photos but adorable in real life.
I then die cut the oval out with a Spellbinders scalloped oval die cut and then die cutting the next size up out of Color-Aid paper. {Using new stuff-Here's the story-A friend that's a graduated art student gave this stack of papers to me because it was something she had to have for her art classes but didn't have the room for it when she moved across the state. It is a stack of paper, but not cardstock, that has a paint chip feel to it and has about every color you can imagine-Love the colors and the freebie papers!}
I inked the inside the die cut while the paper was still in it with Ranger Distress Ink. I sprayed it with water before removing the die cut after which it was hit with the heat gun for a faster drying time.
The patterned paper {That I cut done from 12x12} is by Little Yellow Bicycle which is on top of some Recollections black cardstock. The sentiment {New use of dies} is stamped onto the lighter color banner die. I also cut a darker colored banner and cut it in half. Then I adhered one piece to each end of the light colored banner. For the sentiment I used a stamp and black ink both by Hero Arts.
