Birthday blues

I made this card to sell at the local scrapbook store. I had to fiddle with it a lot to get it out the door. I really love border punched right now but am slightly bored with the ones I have. Oh well I'll just keeping on using what I have. Like this Martha Stewart punch is an oldie but a goodie in my opinion.

The flower on the kraft paper is heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

It's different then what I normally create but I still like it.

This week at Chalk-Ah-Lot Cafe our challenge is CHALK DIRECT TO PAPER. So no paint or water or glue or anything just the chalk. I dusted my chalk onto the bottom portion of the card. It's light but it does have these fun streaks in it. I love the way they stand out. The flourish on the card was brushed with chalk and paint. You can find the powdered chalks HERE. Chalk-Ah-Lot Challenge #1

Welcome to the first week of the Chalk-Ah-Lot Cafe challenge. This challenge blog is the first of it's kind to require you to use chalk on your project/creation.

The chalk that we get to play with is so much fun and versatile. It's a powder chalk by Stamp N Plus Scrap N It comes in a variety of colors that you can purchase in a set or individually. Here is a picture of the chalks:

It's a fun powder that you can use on its own or add it to other mediums such as paint, glue, Stickles, water, Gesso and much more. There are so many techniques that one could use with these chalks. The possibilities are endless.

So for our first challenge, which will run for 2 weeks the theme is ANYTHING GOES.

For my card I used the color Gem combined with paint and applied it directly onto the stamp using a paint brush and then stamped it onto my paper. The stamps (flourish and sentiment) can be purchased at The Stamp Affair

Here is the sketch and my card using an image from Delicious Doodles.

I used a background stamp from Hero Arts to heat emboss with clear embossing powder on the red paper. I then sprayed the paper with Perfect Pearls and water. The present stickers are by Jolee;s and the felt ribbon by Oriental Trading Co. The circle was cut out using my Cricut and then stamped with a Fiskars dotted line circle using red ink by Stampin Up. I colored in the image with my Copic markers. The Happy Birthday sentiment stamp is from Maya Road and the border punch is by Martha Stewart. White paper is by Recollections and the red by CGull. Published info and a calendar page

After so much that goes into making the calendars for my families, it has paid off. I am being published at Scrapbook dot com

My layout is the last one on the page. I'd love for you to check it out.

For today I have the first of 3 different January calendar pages to show you. I think the best part of this layout is I used all scraps of found within my scrap room.

I still need to consider a resolution or goal if I'm going to for this year. My husbands goal is to get me out of this office make me set up shop downstairs. I'm reluctant to go to the basement. Then he will see how much stuff I really do have. Can't have that now, can we?

Welcome to my last Fabulous Friday fun post. This week I am doing a masking technique that is quite easy and gives such a great look.

I cut a die cut using a Spellbinders heart die and then sprayed the heart with Glimmer mist.

After it dried completely, I used removable double sided tape to adhere the die cut to my white card base.

I used a distressing tool by Ranger Industries and distressing ink to create my background.

Holding the tool at the base instead of the handle, I was able to distress an even coat of the Fired Brick ink. Here it is partially done.

From this picture above I continued bringing small bits of ink onto the card base. A little at a time is the best way to go. You can always add more but you can't take away excess ink.

After I was finished I took off the die cut heart and revealed a white heart.

The two smaller hearts were sprayed with glimmer mist. Next I needed to color my smallest heart on the back side so when the heart was folded up you could see red. Once dry from the mist and ink, I bent the smallest heart in half and adhered just that seam to the center of the larger heart.

From here I sewed the two hearts together at the seam.and then attached them to the center of the white masked heart. Flip up the sides of the smallest heart to add interest and depth.

From here I added rhinestones to the center and colored the thread with a Copic marker.

I stamped the sentiment using red ink onto another Spellbinders die cut and colored the heart in with red Stickles.

CHALLENGE WITH A PRIZE

This week at I Did it Creations challenge #87 our challenge is "A gingerbread Christmas" and we are sponsored by Robyn's Fetish.

I painted this gingerbread woman using distressing inks, sprayed with water and applied with a fine tip paint brush. The frosting is Liquid Pearls and the button and pockets are Stickles. The red square is chipboard with sentiment stickers applied. I wrapped the lace around the patterned paper.

Fabulous Friday Fun 12-23-11

This week I am going to show you a fun thing to do with twine, hemp, floss or you could even do it with ribbon. I stamped a background stamp onto my cardstock and there was a seam I wanted to cover up. Here is the end results:

Here are the supplies I used:

A paper piercer, cardstock, hemp and leaf brads.

I taped a piece of hemp to the back of the paper with regular scotch tape. If you were doing this for a scrapbook they sell acid free regular tape for things like this. Since this is for a calendar I didn't worry about it. I taped it to one side of the scalloped border.

From there I wrapped it around the front to the back and end up with the hemp in the front.

When I came back around from the top I crossed the hemp. This is where my first brad is going to be. If spacing is important to you it may be best to use a ruler and make marks on your paper as to where each brad should go.

I poked my hole and inserted my brad. Tuck the hemp under the brad where you want it to line up on your paper-like me covering the line of the overlapping stamp.

On the backside of the paper use the brad prongs to secure the hemp to the cardstock. This way you don't have to use glue to hold the hemp in place.

From there you cross the hemp again, poke your hole and insert the next brad. Tighten the hemp for a clean criss crossed look.

Secure the hemp in the back with the brad prongs and move on to the last one.

To make my crosses tighter I snipped the hemp in the back and secured it down with the last brad prongs. After that I taped the remaining piece of hemp to the back. (last step not shown)

Here is what it looks like once I was finished tucking and arranging the crosses of the hemp just right.

Here is the final layout I made using this technique.

I love the way the border punch resembles snow. This card was made with a bunch of scraps that were on my table. I sprayed the white cardstock with Perfect Pearls and water mixture to give it sparkle like snow.

CHALLENGE WITH A PRIZE

This week for Fabulous Friday Fun I am going to show you paper piecing with a digital image.

I selected this image from Robyn's Fetish.

I printed two images on my regular printer paper. This way I could see what one would be the best one to line up my card.

Next I placed double stick removable tape by Scotch on the printer paper in the middle of the image. This way when I peel the card off the paper the tape will more then likely stay on the paper and not the card.

I use my ceiling light to line up the card with the image and where I want it to print on the card. Push the card onto the paper when it's lined up where you want it.

I ran the piece of paper with the card temporarily attached to it through my printer.

Using the same piece of tape, I placed scraps of Christmas paper to the image and ran them through my printer.

After I had all the patterned paper printed on I cut them out keeping the black line around the image the best I could.

Adhere the heart and the star to the ornaments.

Start adhering the pieces of patterned paper cut outs back on to the image you printed on the card base.

This is what the final image looked like once I adhered the patterned paper pieces.

This technique is best done with images that are easy to cut out.

Give paper piecing a try. It really adds dimension to your digital images.

This week at I Did it Creations challenge #85 is Santa's getting Ready. We are sponsored and given images to work with by Gingerloft Digi Stamps.

Here is my cute reindeer card. I used a border and rub on sentiment from K and Co along the bottom along with some cording. The die cuts are by Spellbinders (scalloped circle and Label #2). On the scallop circle I inked or shaded the inside of the die cut while it was still in the die by using my Ranger distressing tool and antique linen distressing ink. The star stickers are by Me and My Big Ideas.

I painted the reindeer in with distressing inks and Perfect Pearls mixed with water. The gloves and skates have Stickles on them.

Fabulous Friday Fun 12-9-11

CHALLENGE WITH A PRIZE

This week for Fabulous Friday Fun I am continuing on with last weeks projects using Liquid Pearls. I came up with so many examples of ways to use it that I had to break it into two posts. HERE is last weeks post and on to this weeks post.

I have these large flowers that are not paper but more like a Mulberry paper but a little bit stronger. For the first idea I used the White Opal and a rubber background stamp by Hero Arts.

I sprayed a blob of Liquid Pearls with water and painted it onto the stamp.

I placed the flower on the stamp and pressed down onto the stamp. This is the fun look that I got.

The second flower I painted with just white opal Liquid Pearls. After it dried I used platinum pearls mixed together with a couple drops of ink from a Ranger Industries re-inker, color aged mahogany, on wax paper.

I used my paint brush to mix the two together

Then I added more Platinum Pearls to make the mixture thicker.

I painted the petals of the flower lightly with the mixture to get the following look.

Combining the flowers together along with a circle die cut and an epoxy sticker I layered them on to a journal box. Here is a close up of the flower. I like the way the Liquid Pearls add color and texture to the flowers.

For the third flower I used the same mixture as above on a clear background stamp.

Here I painted the background stamp.

Place the flower on top of the stamp to transfer the image.

Here is the flower after being stamped.

The stamped image didn't transfer completely but I was able to use the flower on a card.

Using a snowflake sticker and a rhinestone for the center I was able to hide the imperfection.

There is another Liquid Pearl aspect to this card. I heat embossed snowflake stamps using clear embossing powder. I wanted to see if the Liquid Pearls would resist an embossed image. Adding a few spritz of water to the Liquid Pearls and painted the patterned paper.

Thankfully the sun was shining the day I took these photos. You can really see the snowflakes pop off the paper in these shots.

Just a quick Christmas card to share today. I love how you can stencil the Spellbinders dies. It just adds so much dimension to an already awesome die cut. The picture looks like poo but what can I do when the sun won't shine. We have been living under a gray cloud for over a week. Hate it! Why do I live here, I ask myself constantly? Oh yeah most of my family (even though some I could stand to move away from) and friends are here.

I tried doing lighting in my office and got yelled at for removing lamps from the living room. So I asked for an over my head lighting, just something that would clip onto my bookshelf and I got the look followed by "I put all new lighting in that room. What do you mean there's a shadow?" Lol-whatever. Anyone got any suggestions without spending a ton?

Fabulous Friday Fun 12-2-11

Welcome to another Fabulous Friday. This week I am going to show you a couple ways I used Liquid Pearls by Ranger Industries.

I have lots of pictures to share with you today. But the first one I want to share is a card I made for the I Did it Creations challenge on 11-19-11. I used White Opal Liquid Pearls on the snow portion of the snowlady. A DT member asked what I used and that is where this post comes in. (Image by Robyn's Fetish-Bella Da Snowlady)

I'm going to use another Robyn's Fetish image called Snow Wagon.

Here is a picture of the other supplies I used for this card. I use wax paper to blend all the ingredients for this first technique.

I take the ink pad and flip it upside down on the wax paper.

From there I add Liquid Pearls off to the side of the ink and then spray water by the two.

The paint brush draws a little bit from each the ink, water and Liquid Pearls. Mix them together before you begin to paint on to your image.

Next step is to paint in your image using the mixture of the three. I started with Tea Dye ink and Platinum Pearls.

For a bit of shadowing I made another spot on my wax paper using Vintage Photo distressing ink with the Platinum Pearls.

You have to move quickly with this mixture because it dries quickly. When the mixture is wet you can move it around well however, once it is dry, it is what it is. For the wheels I used Walnut Stain ink with Platinum Pearls and water too. The gears of the wheel could no longer be seen once I painted over them but that was OK-you will see why in a few photos.

I colored in the heart using Barn Door Distressing ink, water and White Opal Liquid Pearls. I then started in to making the snow. Just squirt some into the area you want the texture and use the tip to push it close to the lines of the image and to give it a swirl effect.

You can see in this last one that I went around the lines of the image to give the snow more depth.

Next I made the ground snow covered by using the White Opal Liquid Pearls.

Here is my final card where you can see I placed glittery chipboard dots in place of the gears on the wheels.

This second example will be quick. I used the Christmas Cookie image by Robyn's Fetish.

I painted the cookie with a combination of Tea Dye and Antique Linen Distressing inks and water with Perfect Pearls. Then I colored the frosting of the cookie with a paint brush using Platinum Liquid Pearls and water. From there I used the White Opal Liquid Pearls and made the frosting swirls. I painted in the dots with Barn Door Red and water because I wasn't sure if my rhinestones would cover the entire circle.

Then like a silly girl I put the rhinestones on with my iRock and thought I should use a Spellbinders die on this cute little cookie. Lol. The rhinestones cracked and dented my Cuttlebug plate. However, my rhinestones sparkle like diamonds now. Maybe I will try and take another picture in the daylight so you can see them better. I thought it was pretty funny.

I made this lovely card to sell at the local scrapbook store. Apparently the ladies like cards with flowers. I hope they like this one. I sure do. The best part about this card is that all the paper used were scraps I found in my stash. It makes me feel good to use those little pieces that I save for "some day". Thanks for looking.

This week I am going to show you a fun technique of folding your paper to create a point of interest or embellishment for your project.

You need:

A square piece of either a double sided piece of patterned paper
a single sided piece of patterned paper that you can stamp on the back
or a piece cardstock.

I used a piece of patterned paper on one side and cream on the other. The size I used was 2 3/4.

This first picture is the patterned side of my patterned paper.

The other side is cream and I wanted to stamp a pattern on it. Here is the stamp I used:

I flipped the stamp over so the image was facing up and pressed my ink pad to the stamp.

With my stamp full of ink I took the piece of paper and placed it on top of the stamp. Be sure to hold the paper in place with one hand and run your fingers across the back of the paper with the other hand.

Here is a picture of the first time I stamped the paper.

I need the whole piece of paper to be stamped. Ink the stamp again and line it up the best you can.

Not bad but I still need those edges stamped as well. Repeat stamping just the edges. It's not of great concern if the image doesn't line up exactly.

Next we need to fold our square. Take two edges and fold them inward to make a point.

Proceed with folding the other two ends. You can see I got some ink on the patterned paper and that will be hidden with the next folds. If not use ink to ink the edges or a distressing tool to ink the edges and make it look like you wanted it that way:)

Next we will fold the four tips back onto themselves. You can use a bone folder to do this but personally I just eyeball it.

Next thing you need to do is adhere it. I open the folds and run a tape runner along the inside of the first fold as seen below. It's hard to see but the adhesive is a bunch of little lines in a row.

Then I use a glue stick to adhere the smaller tip.

Do this to all the edges to make your square.

Then I assembled my card together by adding a cake sticker to the center of the of the folded square.

Here is my final card using the square and an embossed sentiment.

Thanksgiving Day

I am very thankful for my little family. My husband is so amazing and gives me unconditional love everyday. My baby girl is such a joy to have around. I can't image life without her. With all that being said I have a Thanksgiving day card to share today. I made the cornucopia and leaf with my Cricut's Autumn Celebrations cartridge. The sentiment stamp is by Stampin Up and it's embossed with Ranger embossing powder. The background stamp is by Anne Griffins with ink and Perfect Pearls by Ranger Industries. This week I am going to touch on Alcohol inks by Ranger Industries. It is hard to show the process in still pictures since you have to work kind of quickly. I learned how to use alcohol inks from a scrapbook store owner. It's different from the way Tim Holtz demonstrates them in THIS old YouTube video. It just goes to show there's more than one way to use products. I think everyone likes to learn new ways to use products they may already have or were thinking of trying.

Here's a little bit of information about this card that I'd like to share with you before we start. First, I had this image from Robyn's Fetish (see below) already colored in and wanted to match the green in the leaves to the paper. I have the alcohol ink color Citrus but the green I was looking for was more of a blue-ish green. We were all taught at a young age that yellow and blue make green and so I was willing to mix Sail boat Blue and Sunshine Yellow to find the color that matched my colored image just perfectly.

Second, I didn't buy blending solution or the tool to apply the alcohol inks. The store owner taught me that regular under your bathroom sink alcohol would work for a blending solution. I had an empty bottle from a dollar store three pack that I poured the alcohol into and that serves as my blending solution. Then I had my husband cut me a few pieces of wood and put some self adhesive Velcro on them to act as my tool. I bought some cheap felt from a craft store and cut squares the size of my block. The felt sticks to the Velcro making this a cheap alternative to the Ranger tool. Here's the thing, I've never used the Ranger blending solution or their tool and they may work better than my homemade alternatives. But for cost sake I would rather be able to buy different colors of alcohol ink with the money I saved rather than the tools.

OK, on with the show!!

Supplies:

The rest of my supplies came from my stash.

Let's begin. This first picture shows my alcohol inking supplies (minus the "blending solution" AKA rubbing alcohol).

Then I'm going to mix the blue and yellow together on the felt. I started by lightly squeezing the bottle in three different places on my felt like my picture shows.

After the blue I added the yellow to the felt and then some alcohol to the felt as well. On the paper I place little drops of Mixative all around. It gives the whole paper a sparkle instead of just a couple areas that you get when you add it to the felt.

From there you just twist the felt block onto the drops to mix them all together. For my first attempt at matching the green I ended up with this:

It was too yellow to match my holly leaves. I cut another piece of paper, added more blue to the felt than yellow and came up with this:

So you are probably thinking they look pretty similar. Here is a picture of them side by side:

Now you can tell the top paper is more blue then the bottom paper. As you may recall I said you have to move quickly with the way I do it and the pictures prove that. The small circles you see in the papers is the mixative. If I were to blend the colors faster before the mixative absorbs into the paper, I wouldn't have those circles. I would come up with a more even distribution.

Here is a close up of my card with the alcohol inked paper (the top paper from the last photo). Once it dries and with a little strategic placement of embellishments you can't see the circles of mixative on the paper as much as you do in the pictures above.

Here is my card all done (the sun decided to poke out for the picture):

I think the green in the holly leave match the paper well. I hope you enjoyed this brief tutorial on how I used alcohol inks on my card and you will be inspired to pull yours out for your next project.

This week for Fabulous Friday Fun I am going to show you a few ways that I like to use Crackle paint by Ranger Industries.

When my seven year old nephew was over we played with Crackle paint and he kept waiting for the crackle sound. To his disappointment there isn't a sound that goes along with it. The paint dries on the surface with a crackle texture or pattern. The more paint you use the more the finish will be crackled.

Crackle paint comes in many of the distressing ink colors including a clear. The plastic jar of paint comes with an applicator on the lid. This makes it so easy to use. Open the lid and paint on to your surface. I would suggested placing wax paper or something similar under your painted object. It will dry on the wax paper and then come off it very easily.

There are many things you can paint with crackle paint:

*chipboard

*stickers

*patterned paper

* cereal box board

*cardstock

*die cuts

*whatever you can imagine.

Here is a picture of two that I have and the applicator out of the jar.

I made a few examples for you to see the effect you get when you use crackle paint. This first one I used the crackle paint on the chipboard leaf. I was very generous with my paint on this piece giving the leaf a realistic effect. The color I used on this example is Old Paper.

Supplies: Patterned paper by Basic Grey, cardstock by Halcraft and OTCo, stamp by Hero Arts, ink by Ranger, leaf die cut by Cricut Plantin Schoolbook cartridge and lace is unknown.

You can see on the close up that a little bit of paint is still on the edge. If you want a smoother edge simply flick off those extra flecks of paint off with your finger or you could use a sanding tool too. I find that when I use chipboard I like the edges to appear finished and not raw chipboard color. Therefore when I use the crackle paint I try to get the edges painted too. It helps that the colors of crackle paint match the distressing inks because I have used the ink to finish my edge as well.

This next card I also used chipboard from Colorbok. Again I applied the paint on quite heavy so they would have a large amount of crackle to them. This crackle paint is color Old Paper.

Supplies: Patterned paper by Basic Grey, cardstock by Halcraft and Bazzill, chipboard corners by Colorbok, chipboard circle by Making Memories, sticker by Bo Bunny and brad is unknown.

On this next card I used cereal box board to paint and create the three panels. I ran the center panel thru a crimper to get the wavy texture. Then I painted it with crackle paint lightly to get less of a crackle effect. The colors from left to right are Brushed Corduroy, Fired Brick and Picket Fence.

Supplies: Sticker by Jolee's, die cuts by Spellbinders, ink by Versa Mark and Ranger Industries, stamp by TPC Studio, and embossing powder by Stampendous.

This last example I painted Clear Rock Candy crackle paint onto patterned paper that I had cut into a tag. The sentiment had been stamped onto the tag before the paint was applied. The border was stamped after the paint had dried. I used Colorbox Chalk ink which worked great because it dries so quickly. Pigment inks would take forever to dry and water based ink would just rub off.

Thankful in pink

I am thankful for many things everyday but I will have to say this past weekend I got the a compliment that really made me thankful for good friends. We may only have a few here and there but they sure are good ones that I just adore. So I dedicate this card to the fine friends we have and thank them for being in our lives.

Fun flower already layered by K and Co, background & sentiment stamp by Hero Arts with Sugar Spun distressing ink and some Perfect Pearls, I cut the circles out using my Cricut. I got the twine at Walmart and attached it to the card using Glossy Accents.

FABULOUS FRIDAY FUN:
Today I am going to give a product review with a few examples of using- Glossy Accents by Ranger Industries.
There are other types of clear, dimensional mediums that you could use but for today my focus is Glossy Accents.

Here is picture of a small and large bottle of Glossy Accents. I have both (& more) because I teach classes and there needs to be more than one bottle circling the throughout the students.

I learned about Glossy Accents from Jennifer McGuire from the Creating Keepsakes magazines and now she is with Paper Crafts magazine. She did a video a few days ago that has a Glossy Accents tip in it for you to try. You can find it HERE.

So what is this stuff, Glossy Accents? First it's a super power adhesive. One squirt of Glossy Accent will make whatever you are using as an embellishment stick to your project. It is fabulous for cards that have dimension as they travel that scary road to the mail sorter at the Post Office. It seems a large machine sorts our mail and if your card has too much dimension the machine will rip off the embellishment to get it through. Glossy Accents will make your embellishments stay put on your cards.

Here is a small list of items I thought of that I have used Glossy Accents to adhere to my cards or layouts or whatever:

*Metal embellishments (book plates, charms, tokens, frames, etc)
*Buttons
* Rhinestones
*Chipboard anything
* Flowers
* Flower centers
* Bows made by ribbon or twine. A little dab behind the bow and it will stay put.
* Stick pins
* Glitter
*Bottle caps

You get the idea but I have a couple of pictures to show you. On this first flower I used Glossy Accents on the chipboard glitter dot in the center.

On the center of this yellow flower I used Glossy Accents to adhere my dew drops and the pearl.

Make your own center with Glossy Accents and glitter. I made the small white glitter dots first and then did the center in red glitter. I patted it down in a circular pattern to give the center a rise and more dimension throughout.

Then for this last flower I used Glossy Accents for the center of the flattened bottle cap. This particular bottle cap was plain gold and so I put a Making Memories flower sticker inside of it. I then filled in the space with Glossy Accents.

This last flower leads me into the other way I use Glossy Accents. You can make things like embellishments including stickers, stamped images, die cuts, chipboard, anything look like it has an epoxy finish by adding Glossy Accents to it. It is so easy to use. Just apply the Glossy Accents onto the embellishment using the tip to spread it out evenly.

and also on this strawberry image. I only placed Glossy Accents on the berries to draw more attention to their color.

Another way you can use Glossy Accents is by filling in a pattern when you use dry embossing. I used this for the following layout. The dry embossing pattern reminds me of snowflakes and I thought adding Glossy Accents to that pattern would make a few snowflakes stand out.

I bought the digital paper and elements from Echo Park and wanted to finally use them on a card. I fell in love with the colors and patterns. The distressing ink I used was worn lipstick, which is new to me. The rhinestones are by TPC Studio and Tulip. Cardstock by TPCo. Thanks for looking.

Hi Bloggers!
I do apologize for being so late to post today but I was out of the house, yes me out of the house and with people, enjoying life's little moments. I had a great time talking with others and laughing a ton. Good times but now back to preparing for a busy November full of classes and a wedding that I am making place cards for.

So today's card is a Christmas card that I made a few days ago. I bought some kraft card bases from Hobby Lobby that were 1/2 off and I must say they are such a nice change to the white or off white. The tag is a sticker that I matted with green cardstock. The dark red patterned paper is old by Creative Memories and the other is from LSS. Flowers by LSS, OTC and Prima. The gold center was at the bottom of my rhinestone bin all lonely and kind of beat up. But I liked the way the gold looked with the eyelet on the tag.
