Beer thirty somewhere
I would just like to say, I don't drink and do not endorse these beer companies nor am I receiving royalties for displaying their bottle caps on my blog. However that being said I could be if someone wants me sponsor my paper craft habits. lol. When people come to our cottage and drink beer they throw their bottle caps in this pot (I guess that's what you would call it-like a pot you would put a plant in). We get a large variety of beer caps and so my husband figured out how to pound them down "flat" so the edges would flair out ever so beautifully. I've had them for a while and when I was asked to make some Fathers Day cards for a local scrapbook store I thought they would be a perfect accent to a male card. So here are three that I made.
Blue CS by PC and white by RE, Dad stamp by CTMH, ink by VM by TK, embossing powder by RI, ribbon by OF, Sentiment by Netty's, embossing folder by CB by PC, other bottle cap.
I'm entering this card into:
Creative Card Crew(TU 5-24)-Anything Goes
Truly Scrumptious(W#57)-Anything Goes
Aud Sentiments(W#29)-Male card
Charisma Cardz(TH#21)-boy oh boy
PP by K & Co, stamps by LF, ink by VM by TK and blue by CTMH, die by SZ, blue CS by Sunborn, brads UK, circle cut by CC and bottle cap.
I'm entering this card into:
The Paper Shelter(W#15)-Anything Goes
Meljens Designs(W#60)-Dad card
Card base by RE, CS by Pressed Petals and Sunborn, Embossing folder by CB by PC, ink by CTMH, die by SB, brads by 3B, Sentiment by Shannon's Sentiment, PP by KC.
I'm entering this card into:
Digital Tuesday(TU#112)-Texture
Digi Stamps 4 Joy(W#19)-Boys Boys Boys
Pals Paper arts(TH#95)-Brads
Little Miss Muffet(T#10)-Metal Embellishment
Thanks for checking out my bottle cap card creations.

Same patterned paper = 3 different cards
I used this old paper by Prima on some Fathers Day cards and thought I'd share the three different cards. I have to start using abbreviations for companies because I have 293 pictures in my May of 2011 downloads file. Granted those are usually two pictures of each project but that is still a ton of stuff to mark and give credit to. So refer to my sidebar for abbreviations of companies that I use most often and tire of typing the name out. Call me lazy if you want but I would rather refer to it as budgeting in my time management department. Lol
Card base by Recollections, PP by Prima and DCWV, CS is UK, stamps by CTMH and ink by Colorbox by Clearsnap, dies by SB.
Card base by Recollections, stamps and both green inks by CTMH, brown ink by SU, CS is UK, PP by Prima
Card base by Studio G, Chipboard by AC, floss by KF, circles cut with the CM's cutting system, corner rounder by CM, digital stamp UK-I looked every place I could think of and couldn't find it's owner. The border punch is UK I received it in a swap.
I have so many fathers day and graduation cards to share that you are going call me crazy. So stay tuned for daily posts by me for a while.
30 more minutes and it's Friday in Michigan. What are you doing this holiday weekend?

Pink Wednesday
I thought I would share a few different shades of pink I used in my dance scrapbook that I just completed.
The background paper is by MME with We R Memory Keepers on top of that and pressed Petals on top of that. The letter stamps are unknown (they are the titles to the song of the costume). Right flower by Stampin' Up and left flower stamp by Close to my Heart. Sticker by creative Memories.
Black paper by The Paper Co and all other paper by Creative Memories. Flowers are unknown and outer border is tinsel from an old gift bag.
This an old layout that I revamped for her book so I don't know all the particulars in supplies on this one. 2008 stamp by Technique Tuesday, flourishes by Recollections, journal spot and we sticker by K and Co. Hope you have a great Wednesday.

Manly Monday
Here is my second addition to Thank you cards for my husband although he thought the dragonfly was a little iffy. I thought it was more manly then a butterfly. Next time I'll use the bee and sting his little behind:)
I love that Core'dinates paper and how fun it is to emboss and then sand out the greenish color. The sentiment is by Shannon's Sentiments newly released set of thank yous and thanks. There is so much to offer in that set. The die cut is by Spellbinders, which I sprayed with Perfect Pearls and water. The dragonfly is by K & Co, the embossing folder and Cuttlebug are by Provo Craft and brads are unknown.
Thanks for stopping by to see another Manly Monday card.

Shannon's Sentiments Challenge
This week at Shannon's Sentiments the challenge is to create a birthday card. I used a tag from an older set called Vintage tag set for my card today.
The tag can be found in THIS set. I love how much use I get out of Shannon's sets. Supplies: Cardbase from Michael's dollar bin for 8 (like that price), stamps by Studio G (leaf), Hero Arts (circles) and Imaginisce (Sentiment), ink by Close to my Heart, Tsukineko and Ranger industries, cardstock is unknown except the kraft paper is from Oriental Trading Co, Liquid Glass by Close to my Heart and pop up foam by 3M.
Thanks for stopping by and looking. I hope you will join in on our challenge at Shannon's Sentiments. Shannon's challenges run monthly so now is about the time you should be getting those submissions in.
May 7th was a Get well card
May 14th was three flowers and no patterned paper
May 21st is a birthday card
There's only one more left. Link your projects to the side bar for May's challenges and you could be chosen at random for a $10 gift certificate to Shannon's store. Those that participate the most for that month receive an image worth $3. See the blog for all the fine print and the store for what you are going to buy even if you don't win the gift certificate:)
Have a great weekend.

Smooch Invites
While I wait for this silver Smooch to dry I wanted to show you one of the invitations I made for my sister-in-laws family reunion. I went very simple because I was low on time and so was she.
So I found these cards at Michaels in the dollar bin so you know it is a card not a tag. I sprayed with Smooch (by Clearsnap) then placed the Glitz Design paper on it and the title, which I stamped with Colorbox ink by Clearsnap. Very simple but does the job:) Happy Friday everyone.

Hip Hop Super Star
These two layouts are fun and bright for a Thursday.
The letter tags are by Current from eons ago along with the Stampin' Up dance stamp and stars stamped with Pink Passion ink by SU too. Superstar sticker is by Jollee's/EK Success, floss by Coats and Clark and the the patterned paper is by Basic Grey.
When I started to put this book together I thought I would include layouts from my personal books that she was in the pictures of. At that time I was scrapping 8.5x11 and therefore had to adjust them to make 12x12 layouts. This is one of them where I didn't change anything to the smaller layout just added to make it the size I wanted and am using now.
Supplies that I know of: pink & blue cardstock are by Sunborn as well as the title paper. Background paper by Basic Grey, stickers by Moxxie, mask and star punch by Creative Memories, mist by Tattered angels, font by Quickutz, glitter by Stamendous.
Thanks for looking today. I hope Thursday is a great day for you:)

Calendar pages April and May
Every year around the time school starts back up I start to gather photos from the year and make calendars for family members. This year I made (5 brothers, M&D Groh, Grandma, the oldest niece, my Mom and Brother) 11 of them plus I have one in my office that is different from everyones. I thought I would share the different ones that I had for April and May.
My brothers calendar April calendar page:
For his calendar I used these stripes of sentiments (in the right upper corner) throughout the entire calendar. I found them at My Simple Stories, which are still free and available. It just gave his calendar some unity which I liked and may do more so in the future. That big oval is a recycled card, blue paper by CM, The pink is very old and the purple is by Colorbok. Border sticker by Current, chipboard by Making Memories and bunny sticker by Karen Foster. This family has an annual Easter Egg hunt and these are all the cousins.
This is my moms April calendar page:
The picture isn't the greatest (sorry) I believe the patterned paper is by K and Co, the pink paper is by CM, April showers is by Provo Craft (very old),dies are by Spellbinders, egg stamp and ink by Close to my Heart and the stickers I think are by Stickibilities.
This is my in-laws May calender (they all had the same photos per month just variations of those photos depending on paper availability).
All the patterned paper by CM, stamps are by Close to my Heart (letters and leaves) and Martha Stewart (leaves and acorns), embossing flowers under right photo and brown paper is by Cuttlebug/Provo Craft, and the button leaf is by I think All dressed Up is the company name.
This is my mom's May calendar
The green patterned paper to the left is by Sunborn and under the squares is by CM, square stickers by Provo Craft, circle stickers by Basic Grey, Livin' Loud card by Fancy Pants (I think), blue papers by DCWV and the rest of the paper is just scraps from my stash.
So as you can see these calendars are a great way to use up old product and my families (not to be mean) don't know if the products are new or old. You can also tell the different photos I am working with per family. My husbands grandmothers calendar included pictures of her other children and I come from a divorced family therefore the pictures of my moms calendar vary from that of my brothers calendar. My brothers calendar includes photos from my dads side of the family. So there are 7 calendars that have all the same pictures in them and the remaining 4 (and my office calendar) have some different pictures.
I do have a system to my calendar madness that I will share with you. This year I took all my Creative Memories paper and put it in a bag. Each time I would start a page to any calendar I would go there first. Then if I couldn't find a match I would go to my Sunborn paper that I bought from Sam's Club a few years back. If I still was striking out with paper I would go to my stash. The problem with going to the stash is the time it takes to go thru the stash and find the right paper. Well I didn't have that kind of time so I really limited myself in what supplies I used, other wise I would have to start them in January to get them out for Christmas gifts.....um no thanks. Besides I like to use photos from the year before and no older. It is a progression of how much the kids and adults have grown or changed that makes it fun. At the end of each year we rip them out of the calendar, trim them up all pretty and put them into a Pioneer 8.5x11 scrapbook and use it as one of our many coffee table albums. It's fun for people to look at all the different years and fun for me to see my style has evolved from year to year.
One final note and then I have to get back to this scrapbook I am working on. I put the families birthdays and anniversaries in the calendar so people can look on their calendar and remember to call each other on their event. I send cards to each and every single person in our families but for other it's a great way to stay connected with the family since we are in Michigan and we have family that live in California.
Hope you have enjoyed these two months worth of calendars. I will have more to share in the future and won't have to explain as much. Have a great Tuesday:)

Manly Monday Thank You Cards
This week and next week our Manly Monday is going to be thankful for the things others do. My husband has people that donate products to his classroom and he wants thank you card the kids can sign but doesn't want flowers on it. I know, what's wrong with flowers, right? So I have made him some manly non flower thank you cards to share with you.
The circle outlines were made by Cricut and are Sunborn paper, the blue circle was punched using a Creative Memories circle punch and then it and the die cut were inked by Close to my Heart Moonstruck ink. The die cut is from Spellbinders and the sentiment is from Shannon's Sentiments Thanks set, which was released on May 15th. The background stamp is by Maya Road and I used Stampin' Up ink on it. Blue paper and the stamp underneath the sentiment (to cover up an oops I made) is by SEI
This one is a recycled card that I acquired from one of my mothers and it works perfectly for a male thank you card.
This one the sentiment stamp is by American Crafts and the border by Fiskars, die cut by Spellbinders, ink by Ranger Industries
One more
Same stamp sets as card above.
These are husband approved cards to use for another man. I guess less is more in his eyes. Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my Manly Monday series of cards. Some day when I get to scrapbook my own pictures I will be able to share boy/manly layouts. However, I can't see that happen just yet.
Happy Monday everyone.

Shannon's Sentiments Preview Day 3
Welcome to our final preview day!!!!! We're combining it with our usual Saturday challenge today so you'll get lots of eye candy for the new releases.
Today we're featuring the Getaway Car and Bride and Groom images as well as the Just Married and Lots of Thanks Add-on sets. The full sets with a blog hop will be starting at 6am EST on April 15th at the "Shannon's Sentiments" blog. We will also be hosting a chat at our CDAC group page at 8pm EST on the 15th as well.
For this weeks challenge I would like to see you use three flowers and no patterned paper. Cardstock only please:) I made my card out of the Core'dinations cardstock that has an aqua colored core to it. So once I embossed it and sanded the embossed area the aqua color came shining through. Love that paper. I used a couple of flowers from Petaloo that I sprayed with glimmer mist to make them match the rest of my card and one flower from Oriental Trading Co. My sentiment comes from the Lots of Thanks add-on set that will be released tomorrow:)
Please be sure to check out the other DT members cards.
To play along, just add your post link to the Mr. Linky widget on the sidebar for the May challenges on Shannon's Sentiments blog. Mr. Linky will close for the month on Friday, June 3rd at 11:59pm EST. Please don't include your link in just the comments....for fear it will get lost along the way and not counted toward the monthly prizes.
The rules are the same as always.....
At the end of the month one $10 gift certificate to the Sentiments store will be given to one random winner picked from all participants each month. There will also be one free image ($3 value) given to the one player that participates the most each month. Rules:
1) You are encouraged to use an image from Shannon's Sentiments, but it's not required. (Check out the many freebies available at the store.)
2) Each player may contribute as many entries as they'd like for each challenge.
3) Blog posts must be linked back to the challenge post with your actual blog post, not your general blog link, or gallery link using the Mr. Linky widget. Links included in the comments section only will not be included in the monthly drawing.
4) Your entry must be new art created for this challenge. You can combine it with other challenges.

Some more Layouts
Here are a few more layouts I have been working on for my young ladies dance album. This will give her an idea of how much journaling she will need to do once she gets the book or before hand. *A note to her and her mom the words created by me in the bottom right corner will not be there. It's for online purposes only.
So this first page you won't need to journal on but
This page you will write on the white paper with lines. The top page and this page, go side by side.
You will need to journal a little in the left bottom corner. This is the only layout of this dance.
You will need to write in the pink open box on this page and
on this page as well. Since this dance did so well I thought you may have a little bit more to write about. If not we can improvise and add something to those journal blocks.
I hope you like what you see so far. There are so many more layouts in this book and I think it is turning out quite lovely. Look for more tomorrow.
City Crafter Challenge
This weeks challenge at City Crafter is sponsored by our very own Shannon's Sentiments. The theme for this challenge is "By the Sea". Winner of this challenge will receive a $10 gift certificate to Shannon's Sentiments store, which you can find right HERE.
I have chosen Shannon's Sailboat image, which you can find HERE. You could also use the Hands of Time set using the compass or the Spare Change Jar set and add into the middle boat fund or this Pier image to name a few.
To color this image, I used Ranger Distressing inks sprayed with Perfect Pearls and water with my Aqua Pen from Stampin' Up.
The top background paper is by Imaginisce; brown paper by Creative Memories and the others were just scraps. The ribbon is very old and it's packing says The Lion Product. The cloud punch doesn't have a manufacturer on it. Thanks for looking and be sure to stop by City Crafters blog to play along with the "By the Sea" themed challenge for your chance to win a $10 gift certificate to Shannon's store. Good luck.

I used distressing ink combined with Perfect Pearls and water to color the image in using an aqua pen by Stampin' Up.
The dies are all Spellbinders; font stamps by Lawn Fawn; stamp on ribbon by SEI; floss and patterned paper by Karen Foster; ink by Memento and Ranger; brads by Close to my Heart; and perfect pearls by Ranger Industries.

Get well card in funky fun orange and turquoise colors
This week at Shannon's Sentiments the DT challenge is to create a get well card. Check out the blog for more details on why this certain subject was chosen. I used a sentiment from the Get Well collection that Shannon has made as a special release on May 1st.
My background patterned paper is by DCWV and the die cut patterned paper is by Colorbok. The flower stamp is by Stampendous and I used three different inks, Close to my Heart, distress, and Colorbox by Clearsnap. The flower is by The Oriental Trading Company and brad is by Making Memories.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out my card. I hope you are having a good weekend so far. Be sure to stop by tomorrow for I Did It Creations challenge and then Manly Monday on May 9th. Then on May 12th, 13th & 14th I will have new cards to show you that gives you a glimpse of the new release from Shannon's Sentiments. So check back everyday for something new. I'm scheduling a ton of posts tonight for you to view in the next 2 weeks. I hope you like what you see:)

Tutorial using a digital image
I made this tutorial as an option for the newsletter but it was decided that it's length would be too much for a newsletter. Therefore I decided to share it with you here on my blog. I've formatted it so the instruction is on top and the picture is below.
In this masking tutorial I am using a digital image, the neck tie, from Shannon's Sentiments Fathers Day add on set. Along with my light board and Inkadinkad o masking paper to make a mask of the tie. Others supplies will appear throughout the tutorial and then I will have a list them all at the end.
To start making the mask you place the image closest to the light box and the masking paper, white side up, on top of it. Using a pencil trace the image.
Next step is to cut the tie out of the masking paper.
hen I placed the maskover the image and went back to my light box.
I flipped the image over and traced the tie on the back of the cardstock.
I made soft pencil lines on the back of the white cardstock to match the angle of the tie. (see red arrow) I made the width between the diagonals the same length as the line at each number. (see blue arrows) Just place the end of those lines on the diagonal line and your good to go.
These lines are going to be my score lines. I am on the back side of the image so no one will see these lines if you draw them light enough. This isn't what masking is but this is how I made the end card. The masking part is coming up.
I don't have a fancy score board so I use my Fiskars paper trimmer and a stylus. I line up the drawn line with where I would normal cut the paper. Placing the stylus at either end go over the line with it somewhat lightly so not to pierce through the paper. In this picture I have done three lines so far starting from the left. Once you get upto where the tie is, you would skip the tie and continue on the other side.
My trimmer has the wire in it and you can see I line up the pencil drawn line with the wire. Where the indentatio n is (where the blade end would run) is the how the line rises up.
This is the front side of the image with the mask on top of the tie. You can just see the raised diagonal lines.
Using the supplies in the photo I inked the images background to add visual interest to the image. Now you can see my score lines and this is where the masking is. I have the Inkadinkad o mask over the tie so that it won't become green or blue like it's surroundin gs.
he mask has been removed and normally I would color in the image but I liked it white with the background looking like what a tie could look like.
And here is the end product of this tutorial. Just some cardstock around the edges to make the focus of the card the image and it's background . Thanks for checking out my tutorial. If you do this technique please drop me a line with a link at grohcm@gma il.com.
Thanks for viewing my tutorial and I hope you will try it yourself. If you do be sure to put a link in the comment field so I can come check out your work.
It's Friday and National Scrapbook day is tomorrow so let the party begin. I will be over at Two Peas and a Bucket for the challenges all weekend long. I'm hoping to use the challenges as inspiration on a scrapbook that I need to finish. Wish me luck.
Also we can't forget that Saturday is a new challenge at Shannon's Sentiments, Sunday is a new challenge for I Did it Creations and then finish the fun with my very own series I like to call Manly Monday where I post a card that is intended for a boy/guy. I get my husbands approval on the card first, before posting it as a Manly Monday card.

Inkadinkado Masking paper

ruler
some way to score your lines as in a scoreboard or I used a paper trimmer
a stylus to emboss the image
